Kitchen Hierarchy - Which One You Want to Become?
When you say you want to become a good, professional chef someday, it actually takes more than just saying what you really want to be. If you are decided to be a chef and do all of the chef’s job for a living, it is important that you maintain the positive attitude that all chefs exhibit while working professionally..Check for experience, references, and ask to sample some of the things you are considering on your menu. The French Gourmet’s restaurant and bakery are located at 960 Turquoise Street in Pacific Beach.

What does it take to become a Chef?
Chef de Cuisine is a title, like General. Like the General of an army, one becomes a Chef when someone awards you with that title. To become a Chef, someone must trust you with a kitchen and a big piece of business. A Chef must demonstrate more than just a talent for cooking. A Chef leads. And teaches. A Chef must manage not just staff, but also product and finances. The Chef greets clientele. Assists with sales.

What’s the job market like in the culinary arts?
If you get a culinary chef certification, you make about $7 to $13 an hour, and your job title would probably be prep cook, line cook or lead line cook. To get past that to sous-chef or executive chef jobs, which pay more, you must pursue a degree in culinary arts. Many of our students already work as prep cooks and are studying to obtain their Associate of Occupational Studies degrees in the evening program. We always try to help students get jobs.The hospitality industry is vast, with endless jobs to be done.

Are you a local based company?
Yes, sorta. The owner of Cheapo Texas (Jason Shields) was born in Dallas in 1969, and moved to Austin in 1974 where he attended many of the local schools (the reason behind his grammar errors). At the age of 15 he and his mother moved to Minnesota to take care of his grandmother. At the age of 19 he started working at Cheapo records (His 2nd job after being a line chef at Pizza Hut). He worked at Cheapo records for five years and watched the company grow from two stores to seven stores.Both the Diploma in Biotechnology and Diploma in Biomedical Science could prepare you for a career in forensic science. Forensic studies requires knowledge in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular genetics/biology, pathology, microbiology etc which are offered in both courses. Although the two courses share many similar subjects, there are a number of subjects that make the two courses different e.g. Baking Science, Western and Asian Science Practicum, Culinary Technology, etc.Your club should choose a name that suits your personalities.

Is Being a Chef a Career or a Job?
Just like any other profession, whether or not being a chef is a career or a job depends largely on you. Of course, if your chef-dom is merely a job for you, dont be surprised if it doesnt take long to burn out. Fifty to 70-hour work weeks, high stress, and the creative brain drain all take their toll fairly early. To some, if you do not have all the correct tools (serrated-edge spatula, 2-prong fork, basting brush, and toothed tongs), your barbeque setup is just not complete.You can first write a topic sentence and then add support; or you can think of supporting ideas and then come up with a topic sentence.

How can I get the six months work experience?
The best way is to apply for a job in a restaurant kitchen doing prep work. If you are unsure where to start, choose a restaurant where you like the food and speak to the chef or manager, outlining your intentions.If we go to a corner mom-and-pop place and find that it’s not very good, we won’t write a review. In most cases, the place is inexpensive and will live or die by neighborhood traffic. However, any restaurant with a well-known chef, a big-budget interior, public relations support and high-profile name is fair game.
