Global Warming
Global warming is the process of a gradual increase in the earth’s atmospheric and ground temperatures throughout the entire planet. Studies have shown that global temperature has risen by 1 degree Fahrenheit over the last century. Day-to-day activities by humans since the beginning of the industrial era have resulted in the increased emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere, causing a trend of warming at a distressing pace.
Reasons behind it…
Green house effect - As heat is absorbed by carbon dioxide, the process is somehow similar to a balloon inflated with hot air. At present, though solutions are formulated to save our environment, the serious effects of global warming still bother humanity.
Deforestation - Deforestation is another aspect of global warming. Deforestation is viewed as the primary driver of the increased in carbon dioxide in the environment. Human activities expanded to the extent of destruction of rainforest. With lesser trees to absorb CO2, global warming prevails and challenges the existence of humanity.
The resultant scenario…
Weather patterns - Drought is a state of inadequacy of water supply in a given place. Most harmful consequence brought by drought is starvation. As farmlands are destroyed by drought, crop yields declined. This results to famine in less developed and undeveloped countries.On the contrary, drought may results to stronger rains,severe floods and even hurricanes and tsunamis.
Health - Smog in certain parts of the world is causing allergies and asthmatic conditions to worsen. The poor air quality also results in weakened respiratory system. Droughts and other eco disruptions lead to the rapid spread of infectious diseases and food and waterborne illnesses such as malaria, cholera and dengue fever.
Adverse effects on wildlife - Every now and then, it’s not surprising to hear the extinction of our wildlife. How can we expect these little creatures to survive if we are destroying their habitat to pursue and satisfy our need for an industrialized lifestyle? We invented technology to make our life easier at the expense of these creatures’ survival. When are we going to recognize our mistakes?
Is there any effective way to control?
Arrest pollution - Reducing the rate of pollution caused by human can slow down global warming and even brings back lost balance of ecology. Mans continuous pursuit of knowledge makes it possible for the invention of different forms of altenative energy. What man can do to help his mother earth is to maximize this knowledge and and use solar energy, wind energy and other renewable clean energies to reduce the level of pollution.
Changes to the legal system - With public support on the rise, laws must be imposed worldwide to cap emissions of carbon dioxide and other green house gasses from industrial and power plants. Tighter standards for appliances such as air conditioners and heat pumps will also strengthen the efforts to reduce emissions.
YOU are the key! - It is important for us to be an activist and vigilant. By doing this we take pride to defend mother earth. We start doing it by ourselves. We can do little things in our own smart ways such as energy conservation and recycling. Before you know it, you helped in the conservation of our planet for the next generation using module of sustainable development.
