Are Back Problems Ruining Your Good Night’s Sleep?

If you’re one of the nearly two thirds of adults who experience back problems, you fully understand the challenges of even the simplest of tasks. Walking, bending, sitting for long periods of time, and even sneezing can cause agonizing back pain. How To Ensure Proper Sleep Alignment

If you’re being kept awake by back problems, chances are good you can reduce or eliminate back pain by ensuring proper sleep alignment. Proper sleep alignment means positioning your body in the most efficient manner to take pressure off your back. It doesn’t matter if you sleep on your side, back, or stomach — proper alignment can easily be achieved. The key factor is removing any and all pressure on your back, and properly aligning your neck. Fortunately, there are some easy solutions to help you align your body properly while asleep, thereby preventing back pain from ruining your good night’s sleep.

One easy solution is adding a memory foam pad to your bed. These inexpensive pads are designed to support your entire body in a way that most mattresses can’t. Second, a lumbar/spine pad provides continuous lower back support, especially if you’re sleeping on a worn out mattress or couch. Third, consider countoured pillows. These pillows work in the same manner as memory foam pads or spine pads, except they help with proper head and neck alignment.

Simple solutions like memory foam pads and countoured pillows can make a big difference in reducing your back pain. Many people have completely eliminated their back pain by making sure their body is properly aligned while they sleep. Further, consider adding low impact exercise to your life. Pilates is an especially effective form of exercise for back pain sufferers due to its emphasis on alignment and stretching. These simple, inexpensive solutions can not only rid you of back pain, but also give you a better nights sleep and improve your energy levels and overall quality of life.
